JACK R. BROUWER, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. A self taught artist. After serving his country in the United States Navy Seabees, World War II, he enjoyed a successful career in advertising as an illustrator, graphic designer, art director, creative director and owner of a 4A advertising agency.

In 1987, he decided to take the plunge and follow his dream of full time painting in the fine arts. Brouwer has become nationally recognized as a watercolorist through his election to signature membership in the American Watercolor Society in New York, elected signature membership in the National Watercolor Society in California, signature membership in Watercolor West, and elected signature membership in the Midwest Watercolor Society of transparent watercolor.

A master of the exciting techniques of transparent watercolor, feeling at complete ease in loose spontaneous renderings to the more exacting realistic styles. His images evoke a sense of excitement and a love of painting that the viewer shares through their own experiences.

The dynamics of Brouwers' paintings are created by strong design and composition combined with impeccable drawing skills. Inviting the viewer into the painting through carefully placed lines and shapes manipulating the eye through the journey of viewing the painting. Always a surprise or an unexpected element sometimes with a touch of humor. Visual essence is enhanced by the vivid use of rich pigment applied with spontaneous brush work with a depth seldom reached in watercolor, contrasted against the pristine white of the paper.

His realm of subjects is the world. Having traveled extensively he creates the mystery and intrigue of an Egyptian marketplace to a quiet stream in Northern Michigan. From a colorful bouquet of wild flowers to the lobster boats of the east coast. Portraits live and old buildings and abandoned boats stir the imagination of a hidden history.

Brouwers' paintings can be found in national and international corporate and personal collections
